Govt, of Telangana, 8 Miss World’s come together for a Common Cause; Kick- starts world’s first edition of ‘Feminine Hygiene Awareness’ Campaign

At an enlightening event - The first global edition of'Feminine Hygiene Awareness' organised by Government of Telangana in collaboration with Manushi Chhillar ( Miss World 2017) held in Hyderabad, several influencers from around the world, 500+ students, people from civil societies gathered to discuss and talk on how to break the taboo discussing menstruation and to raise awareness about feminine hygiene.

Hyderabad, India, February 1, 2018: With a view to raise awareness about menstrual health, the Government of Telangana in collaboration with Manushi Chhillar (Miss World 2017) kick-started the 1st global edition of'Feminine Hygiene Awareness’ in Hyderabad on Thursday. To further the campaign and to promote 'Feminine Hygiene' Miss World winners along with Manushi will travel to different cities around the world after its launch in Hyderabad.

The inaugural edition aimed to strengthen cooperation between Government and civil societies for improving Feminine Hygiene had 8 inspiring Miss World winners along with Shri Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary Government of Telangana, give away an impactful talk around the theme and shared their vision to elevate awareness. After the introductory address an audio visual of Miss World platform was screened, later Julia Morley (Chairman CEO Miss World) spoke about the campaign, its importance and how the Miss World Platform is championing the cause.

Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar who in collaboration with the Government of Telangana facilitated the event, spoke in length about her involvement and what is being done in spreading awareness about menstrual & Feminine hygiene through her pet project 'Shakti'. She emphasised the need for inclusive and collective effort amongst all stakeholders to ensure the movement to be long lasting.

Manushi Chhillar through her initiative Project Shakti is educating the women and men in rural areas of the country about menstrual hygiene and has been a passionate advocate on why it is important for a woman to use a sanitary napkin. Apart from initiative to raise awareness about feminine hygiene she is also providing low-cost sanitary napkins to them.

So far, Manushi has already covered more than 20 and growing number of villages in India. She also spoke about her aim to widen the scope and outreach program of Project Shakti. She believes, the Miss World platform gives tremendous scale to expand her commitment towards social causes and she is glad to receive great support from the Telangana Government to further the social mission.

The interesting feature of the event was coming together of Eight Miss Worlds in one single platform. It was truly inspiring for the audience to hear out Miss World winners Stephanie Del Valle (Miss World 2016), Magline Jeruto (Miss World Africa) Ha Eun Kim (Miss World Asia) Annie Dian Evans (Miss World Oceania) Stephaine Jayne Hill (Miss World Europe) Solange Johnson Sinclair (Miss World Caribbean)

Alma Andrea Meza Carmona (Miss World Americas). Each one of them touched on myths and cultural taboos as well.

Adding charisma to the event was brilliant classical dance performance by Yamini Reddy Students and students from Vikarabad School that enthralled everyone at the event.

Shri. Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary Government of Telangana in his valedictory speech stressed the need to involve all stakeholders, particularly women of all age groups and said "the best place to make an impact on improving the lives of girls and women is in water, sanitation and feminine hygiene awareness, Government is committed towards bettering lives of women and girls in State of Telangana".
