Priya Prakash Varrier awaits the release of 'Check' on February 26. In this interview, she talks about what made her do the film, which is directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti and stars Nithiin in the lead.

This is my first straight Telugu film. After the 'wink' video went viral, I had got a number of offers in Telugu. Since I loved the story of 'Check', I immediately got on board. I had watched 'Manamantha', directed by Yeleti sir, before. It released as 'Vismayam' in Malayalam. My favourite actor, Mohanlal, garu is its hero. That film proved what a great director Yeleti sir is. I got on board when he called me for 'Check'. Not only is he is a brilliant director, but also 'Check' has got actors like Nithiin and Rakul Preet Singh in it.

I can't reveal much about my character in the movie. I can only say that I am the male lead's romantic interest. Nithiin's name is Aditya in the movie. Yatra is my name. She plays a crucial role in his journey as an adventurous girl.

Nithiin has done a number of movies and has got a lot of experience. I am just starting out. So, when I had to act opposite him, I had my nervous moments. But, on set, he never differentiated on the basis of my lack of seniority. Producer V Ananda Prasad garu was very supportive. He played ball when the director recommended my name for the character of Yatra.

Yeleti sir's expressions are neutral. We never understand whether he is happy or angry or sad. I used to look at his face after giving my shot and I wouldn't understand what was going on in his mind.

I listen to music when I find free time on the set of a film. I am fond of humming favourite songs. And Yeleti sir would enjoy my songs.

Since 'Check' is my first Telugu movie, I had done reading sessions with the director and co-directors. I had read every single dialogue. I learned their meaning as well. I had an inkling of the kind of emotions that were expected from me in the scenes. I get distracted by promptings. I am now able to understand when others speak in Telugu.

I have sung a private song named 'Ladi Ladi' recently. I am fond of singing and, if given an opportunity, I will sing in my films. The director thought of making me sing the one song in 'Check'. But it was not to be.

I am doing a film titled 'Ishq' in Telugu. In Kannada, I am doing 'Vishnu Priya'. In Hindi, 'Sridevi Bungalow' is being readied.
