Interview of Rahul Ramakrishna about 'Jathi Ratnalu'

Rahul Ramakrishna is happy about the success of 'Jathi Ratnalu'. In this interview, he talks about the film and a lot of other things.

When Anudeep KV narrated the script, I was in splits. At times, I would just stand up and laugh. I had my doubts as to whether the sense of humour would connect with the audience. But once the film was released, the response was beyond our expectations.

Anudeep KV is very good at satire. He can convey a serious point in a comedic manner. Nag Ashwin garu was the first one to tell me about the movie. Since he asked me to call on Anudeep, I followed suit immediately. I was floored by the narration.

The bonding between us (Rahul, Priyadarshi and Naveen Polishetty) spilled over in terms of onscreen chemistry. More than the story, it is the humour that is the film's USP. Since I worked with Anudeep for more than a year, I started cracking his kind of jokes. It was a litmus test.

The lack of a story in 'Jathi Ratnalu' is a story in itself. The film is laughing at itself and at the audience. A non-story doesn't work always. The producers were very friendly.

'Jathi Ratnalu' is a story-proof film. Thanks to digital democracy, it is theoretically practical for anyone to make a film with a phone camera. People have access to the best of world cinema. Due to this, content has become the king. 'Rotta' stories are not working.

I am doing a big project these days. I can't talk about it now. Besides, I am in talks to play the lead role in four movies. I am yet to sign on the dotted line.

I don't see Priyadarshi as a comedian. He is an actor. The word 'comedian' doesn't make much sense. We have been seen in films like 'Brochevarevarura' and 'A1 Express'. I am glad that 'Jathi Ratnalu' has turned out to be a special combination film for us. Many directors see us as a 'Buy one Get one free' combo.
