'Guvva Gorinka' is the latest direct Amazon Prime release this month. After 'Bombhaat' and 'IIT Krishnamurthy', this is the third film to come out on the streaming giant. Its trailer had given a clue about the nature of the lead pair's characters. What does the rom-com have in store? Is it worth a watch? Find out in our review.

Story

Sadanand (Satyadev Kancharana) is allergic to noise for genetic or psychological or whatever reasons. As fate would have it, he bumps into Sireesha (Priyaa Lal), a violin player. Their relationship blossoms into friendship and love as they share a partitioned flat.

But there is a catch. What is it? Can Sadanand and Sireesha ever end up marrying each other? That's the climax.

Performances

Satyadev, after films like 'Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya' and '47 Days', once again comes back to the melodramatic zone. His comic timing is feeble. Priyaa Lal needs to show a lot of improvement. Her performance is found wanting in heavy scenes.

Priyadarshi is good, while Rahul Ramakrishna and ohers are routine. Chaitanya Madadi, Fish Venkat and Prabhakar (of TV serials) are forgettable.

Technical aspects

Suresh Bobbili's music passes muster in the first half. He is good with the garage song on social media's flaws. The cinematography is quite ordinary. Given that most of the story takes place indoors, the production design and art direction should have been inventive. Thanks to budgetary constraints, everything is shoddy.

Analysis

The basic idea of the hero and heroine falling in love without seeing each other's faces is pretty old-fashioned. In 'Avunu, Valliddaru Ishta Paddaru!', Ravi Teja and his roommate communicated through letters. The film was enlivened by soulful music. In 'Guvva Gorinka', the lead pair live in a partitioned flat where the person on this side can clearly hear what the person on the other side is speaking on phone in a low voice! This kind of silliness would have been forgivable had there been an emotional or some substantial reason behind Sadanand and Sireesha not coming face-to-face till the climax.

The hero is allergic to sound, the heroine is passionate about the violin, but the conflict in the love story has nothing to do with either. What was the point of this duality?

The love story moves at a snail pace. The end titles are just 40 minutes away and there is a song describing the joy of first love.

There is a live-in couple whose compatibility issues are bland. Priyadarshi womanizes a lot and even he ends up giving sermons on the beauty of love. When he does comedy, he confuses a sanitary pad for a packet of bread. Such shockingly immature comedy even in 2020!

Laxman Meesala, Bhadram, Bithiri Sathi, Rahul Ramakrishna and other comedians are seen in roles that hardly make an impact.

Closing remarks

'Guvva Gorinka' is where the love story goes haywire after the first 30 minutes. There is no interval point and the equations between the lead pair are hazy. There is no chemistry. The comedy tracks are insipid.
