A Ray of Hope

In a landmark decision ETV the leading Telugu channel in AP has announced a special Prime Slot on Sunday’s titled “ETV Hand Picked Movie” slated to start from June 8th. ETV will be airing special Hand Picked Movies at 2 PM. The interesting and special thing about this slot is that ETV would be sharing the revenues earned out of the advertisements from this new slot with the filmmakers. Opening film for this slot is the much talked about & film critically acclaimed film “ Billa Ranga” which is getting shown on June 8th.

Said Mr Bapineedu CEO of ETV “ This are special movies made with limited resources and budgets but made by people who are very passionate about cinema and have a different story to tell. These movies fail to reach out to larger audiences through theatrical screenings due to lack of resources. We want to offer our channel to these filmmakers to encourage and keep them motivated. We have decided to show case not only their work but also share our revenues with them. . “

Speaking further on this probably game changing initiative, Mr Manohar Kesari, Channel Promotional Head, said we had discussed this idea with our Advertising Fraternity and to our pleasant surprise have responded positively and also said it is a great initiative and can attract maximum eye balls as this films are of different genres and have a very different story to tell and going by a trend in Bollywood where content driven movies are earning all the moolahs the situation can be replicated in Tollywood Market as well “Madhu Mahakali, whose film “ Parampara” is selected in this slot spoke in a very emotional tone, “ We have made a very sensitive film about a Father - Son relationship and have actors like Naresh & Amani acting in it. We were actually little worried about the recoveries and when Kauphy Talkies the company which is facilitating the films for this slot, discussed with us about the prospects we immediately agreed to it, Now that we have a TV channel to show the film we are going ahead with theatrical distribution ourselves and with a window of three weeks we will be airing it in ETV, We are sure of getting repeat telecast in Channels.

“ ETV Initiative is a win - win situation, filmmakers not only make money but also retain rights to their content perpetually and can monetise their content in several other platforms “ said Mr IV Reddy whose film “Premanchali” is a part of this project and who had delivered several hits recently like Pizza, Journey etc. and believe that this trend should be encouraged as it gives the content owners a steady flow of income. Importantly he is willing to give his Big Ticket movies like “Idhega Ashapadav” under this scheme subct to ETV accepting as he Is confident of earning more revenues through this format than through the regular one time sale of films for the perpetuity. He also thanked Balwanth Singh Founder of Kauphy Talkies to implement this plan and help independent and committed filmmakers.

Looks like with the new change that is happening across the nation with development as the core focus, ETV can be lauded for their efforts in becoming partners in progress for the much in need filmmakers.
