Upendra was born in Koteshwara, Karnataka, India, on 18th September 1968. He is a Film Director, Screenwriter, Lyricist, Playback Singer, and Writer & Artist, Film Actor renowned for his work in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil films.
Personal Life:
Upendra's parents are Manjunath Rao & Anusuya Rao. He has a sibling named Sudeendra. He married Priyanka Trivedi and the couple are blessed together with 2 children namely Ayush and Aishwarya.
Career:
Upendra was born into Kannada's Brahmin middle class family. He still decided to work in the film industry and thus he invited veteran director Kashinath as his assistant. After a while, he made his directorial debut finally in 1992 via the Kannada movie Tharle Nan Maga.
This film smashed many records in the box office and has created a cult leap. The iconic comedian Jaggesh also acted in this film. His next film Om was also a huge success, and with two back-to-back success, he became one of Kannada's most sought-after directors, then several filmmakers began to approach.
In 1998, he smashed many records with his venture A again. Besides directing, he made his acting debut with this film. In his very first movie, he not only earned the Best Director award, but also won the Best Actor Award.
He then appeared in the self-titled film Upendra opposite Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, which was a bigger success than his previous film A. In his next, in the remake of the Bollywood film Darr named Preethse in 2000, he again paired up with another Bollywood star, Sonali Bendre.
This film was again a massive success and Upendra became one of the top actors in the Kannada film industry with three successive mega hits. He has begun to feature in Telugu and Tamil films, in addition to Kannada. The next hits he gave out were Budhivanta and Aishwarya.
After nearly a decade in 2010, he returned to path and produced in his very first comeback feature, Super. Along with Tulip Joshi and veteran Tamil movie actress Nayantara, he also played in this film.
Since then, he has worked more frequently and is undoubtedly one of the Kannada film industry's greatest actors. His 2015 Telugu film, named S / O Satyamurthy, has been declared 7th highest ever grossing Telugu film. He was recently seen in Nagarjuna, a Kannada film.
He has also emerged as IPL side RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) brand ambassador in the year 2010.
