Renowned singer, S.P.Balasubramanyam has also acted in a few movies. He is now playing the role of ‘Appadasu’, a retired teacher in the movie – Midhunam, directed by Tanikella Bharani. The movie is based on the famous novel written by Sree Ramana. Midhunam is about an aged couple, who live life on their own and on their terms.

Appadasu and Buchhi Lakshmi played by SPB and Lakshmi, are an ideal couple living happily after completing all their worldly responsibilities. Appadasu is a retired teacher, who doesn’t want to go and live with his children. He feels that after retirement, it is time for him to live a life of his choice and so remains in his home with his wife. He has certain beliefs and just lives by them. He doesn’t want anyone to disturb his life or time with his wife.

Thinking idealistically, Appadasu, believes in doing all his work by himself. He makes chappal for his wife with his own hands. He wants to just relax and live happily with his wife. He doesn’t believe in mulling over petty issues and is not bothered about what happens in the outside world. Even the telephone is put on the attic and is used only once in a week.

In a world where parents are ignored by children, moving to pursue high opportunities, Appadasu has no such issues with his children. But he just believes in detached attachment. He feels that there is no need for them to go and live with their children away in a new land. He is rather happy to spend the end of his life in his place on his terms.

The movie highlights how a couple can live happily even in the last stage of life. Midhunam is directed by the writer turned actor, now turned director, Tanikella Bharani. The movie is ready for release this November and has excellent music.
