Jayaprakash Reddy, the well-known Telugu actor, is no more. He passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Guntur. He was 74 and succumbed to cardiac arrest.

Born in 1946, JP made a name for himself in the world of theatre. He was a passionate stage artiste and remained so even after he became a sought-after character artiste in cinema. Discovered by Dasari Narayana Rao, JP debuted in movies with 'Brahma Puthrudu' in 1988. He went on to do comedy and serious roles in popular films such as 'Jamba Lakidi Pamba', 'Preminchukundam Raa' and 'Samarasimha Reddy'.

Although a few of the biggest hits in the late 1990s threatened to typecast him as the typical loud-mouth villain, JP refused to become archetypal and tried a range of distinct roles through the next two decades. His comic timing in films like 'Dhee', 'Ready' and 'Nuvvosthananate Nenoddantana' will always be admired.

'Sarileru Neekevvaru', 'Amar Akbar Anthony, 'MLA', among others, were his last films.

Ragalahari conveys sincere condolences to JP's bereaved family. Om Shanti!
