While 'Dasara' is doing roaring business in the Telugu market, the film is hardly a pan-India hit. When the movie was planned to be a pan-India release, the makers had the success of 'Kantara' and 'Karthikeya 2' in mind. Both these films started out as humble ones and went on to become big hits.
But the fact is that 'Dasara' is no 'Karthikeya 2', let alone 'Kantara', in terms of business in non-Telugu languages (so far). However, Nani is being realistic when he opines that a film like 'Dasara' making even Rs 2 Cr in Hindi is respectable, considering that it's a dubbed release in the Hindi belt.
While Nani can be appreciated for having his feet on the ground, it must be argued that trade will be disappointed every time a pan-India film with commercial content fails to pick up numbers in Hindi. It only goes to show that the reception to South Indian films in the Hindi market is not as predictable and guaranteed as it is made out to be. 'Dasara' is a commercial film with noteworthy production values. It should have done better in Hindi.
