In a recent interview, producer SKN stated that Matka was not a bad movie but it was crushed at the box office because of the Diwali blockbusters effect. Varun Tej's Matka was released on November 14. Just two weeks earlier, the BO saw the release of three Diwali hits: KA, Lucky Baskhar, and Amaran. With the audience watching these movies, they had no appetite for any new releases. In fact, both Matka and Suriya's Kanguva were severely affected by this factor.
This is why, after the staggering success of Pushpa 2 this month, two films have been postponed. Nithiin's Robinhood and Priyadarshi's comedy entertainer, Sarangapani Jathakam. These films have been pulled out of the Christmas race because their producers felt that the family audience would miss their products after spending a bomb on Pushpa 2.
Does this mean that big-ticket movie releases will be followed by a lull at the box office in the future? Suppose movies of Prabhas, Allu Arjun, Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Jr NTR and Ram Charan come out. In that case, all medium and small movies will have to excuse themselves for a month (one week before release and two or three weeks later, if the said film becomes a hit). If Game Changer becomes a solid hit this Sankranthi, what will happen to Tollywood's Republic Day plans?
