Kanguva effect: Film body decides to crack down on YouTube reviews

With big-ticket movies like 'Indian 2' and 'Kanguva' flopping miserably in recent times, there is a view that YouTube channels have played a crucial role in setting a negative narrative against them. As a result, Kollywood film industry bodies have decided to crack down on them. 'Vettayain', too, flopped after a good run over the first weekend due to Dasara festival holidays.

The Tamil Film Active Producers Council, in a statement today, has requested theater owners to stop letting YouTube channels into their premises to cover public reviews inside theater premises. "Just this year, Indian 2, Vettaiyan and Kanguva have been severely affected by public talk reviews," the Council said.

In the past, too, a similar attempt was made but to no avail. It is practical and feasible for exhibitors to gatekeep who enters and who doesn't into their compounds, but they have no control over what happens outside their premises.
