Hindi-Bengali actor Mithun Chakraborty has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke award by the Centre. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan today opined that the Centre's decision is right.

"The central government's decision to confer the Dadasaheb Phalke award on the eminent actor and member of the Rajya Sabha, Mithun Chakraborty, has been met with widespread happiness. Heartfelt congratulations to Mithun Chakraborty, who made his mark in both the Hindi and Bengali film industries. In the 1980s, he had a significant impact on the youth across the country. His dance styles became sensational through the movie 'Disco Dancer'. No one can forget the song 'I am a Disco Dancer'," Pawan Kalyan said.

The actor-politician added that, after Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun is the hero who garnered such widespread popularity in Hindi cinema. "In the movie 'Gopala Gopala', in which I acted, he played the key role of Leeladhar Swami. He held leftist ideologies during his student days but later joined the TMC and eventually the BJP. He has been active in West Bengal state politics for over a decade," the Jana Sena party supremo added.
