Lyricist KK (Krishnakanth) has grown from strength to strength. In the last many years, he has graduated from writing for small movies to now penning lyrics for prestigious ones, including multi-lingual pan-Indian releases. Taking stock of his career, the sought-after song writer says that he has made it this far by grabbing the opportunities that came his way.
Many years ago, he had quit his job to chase his dreams. From chartbusters to soothing melodies, his lines have attained virality many times. Dubbed films for which KK has written lyrics include Sivakarthikeyan-Sai Pallavi's Amaran and Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan in recent times.
"I don't feel any pressure no matter how big a movie's scale is. When writing for films like Salaar and Radhe Shyam, the song written in Telugu is translated into English and sent to lyricists in other languages. They then adapt it to their version," KK says.
For movies like Hanu Raghavapudi-directed Padi Padi Leche Manasu and Sita Ramam, he had the opportunity to pen all the songs. "When you know the entire story, you get to involve yourself on a deeper level. Your language is more fresh in those cases," KK ponders.
What changes in trends does KK notice? In the age of social media, filmmakers insist on a line or phrase that can be the hook of the song. This exerts pressure sometimes, he suggests. Also, when the story is not solid, it is not easy to write songs that can connect with the audience on an emotional level.
KK has excelled across genres. He values Adiga from Nani's Hi Nanna, among others of his recent works. "Anuvanuvu from Om Bheem Bhush went viral, while Ambaraala Veedhilo from the dubbed movie ARM received a great response. Naa Favourite Naa Pellame song in Janaka Aithe Ganaka was also a hit," KK says, adding that his strike rate, defined by the popularity of his songs, has been phenomenal.
Year 2025 marks a new chapter for KK. He has turned into a screenwriter this year, and is currently working on the dialogue version for Prasanth Varma's Adheera.
He is penning two songs for the Prabhas-Hanu Raghavapudi movie. Talking about the prestigious project, KK says that the film will be high on drama and action. Set in the 1940s, it will have a Hollywoodian touch.
Among KK's other upcoming movies include The Raja Saab, RAPO22, Vijay Deverakonda's 12th movie, etc.
