India’s premier video streaming platform, Sony LIV, is all set to premiere a new Telugu original series, Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans. The political drama will start streaming exclusively on Sony LIV from August 7. Its teaser is pretty interesting.
The teaser starts with a conversation between two political heavyweights, played by Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao Madadi. While their characters resemble the real-life political equations between Late YSR and AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, nothing is spelt out explicitly. The political tale, peppered with tectonic events and shattering consequences, is fitionalized and dramatized.
Prasthanam director Deva Katta is the creator. Having helmed the new-age social drama Republic, he is in full form. He directs the series with Kiran Jay Kumar.
Featuring Divya Dutta in a prominent role, the show is produced by Vijay Krishna Lingamaneni and Sree Harsha produced the project under the banner Hitmen & Proodos Productions LLP.
In the age of politicization of everything and the self-censorship of satire, Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans tries to make the best use of the OTT format to retell controversial events. While films made by Mahi V Raghav and Ram Gopal Varma were tailored for political polarization, the SonyLIV original appears to be a dispassionate take on the broken friendship between two political rivals. It is interesting that the teaser ends, quite unapologetically, on the two friends referring to their caste backgrounds. A film couldn't have infused such an on-your-face exchange.
