If you are a fan of edge-of-the-seat thrillers with supernatural elements, Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting is a film you would not want to miss. Headlined by Abhignya Vuthaluru and Charan Lakkaraju, the film will make its debut on ZEE5 on June 27.
Set in a hauntingly eerie rural area in Andhra, the film's story is tinged with folklore and bathed in an investigation track. In what sense does the mysterious village, where marriage is a curse, hold a thousand unresolved mysteries? Abhignya's constable character explores the same in this riveting thriller set in the 1980s. The protagonist goes about unravelling the mystery with the help of a reformed convict.
On the face of it, the film is atmospheric to the core. Besides being a suspense thriller and emotionally grounded, it also offers social commentary (against blind faith and superstition).
In a statement, director Krishna Poluru explained that the series centers on a mysterious phenomenon where every bride dies on her wedding day. This has led to a pervasive fear that has silenced the community, and the show aims to break that silence. Abhignya Vuthaluru said that filming in authentic village locations with real people provided a raw and realistic experience that audiences can appreciate.
Anuradha Gudur (ZEE5 Telugu Business Head) highlighted that the show uses the setting of a remote village to demonstrate how fear can grip a community and how courage can overcome long-standing silence. Producer Sriram (South Indian Screens) was drawn to the story because of its layered nature and its connection to the silent fears prevalent in many communities. He found the project an opportunity to create something moody.
