Donald Trump's social media post on taxing foreign-made films is seen as extraordinary. He wants to save Hollywood that he says has been dying fast.
"Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the US are being devastated," Trump analyzed, adding that a concerted effort by other countries is a national security threat. The US Prez wants a 100% tariff on any and all movies coming into US and produced in foreign lands.
Analysts say that the move is directed against major Hollywood studios like Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures as well as Amazon Prime and Netflix. "Camera operators, set decorators, lighting technicians, makeup artists, caterers, electricians in the US have seen work evaporate. According to the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, roughly 18,000 full-time jobs have been eliminated in the past three years, primarily in California," a report by New York Times says. Trump wants to save these jobs.
So, whether the Indian film industry has much to worry about is left to be seen.
