Trolls continue to target HanuMan maker Prasanth Varma - unfairly so

When HanuMan became a blockbuster in 2024 by trouncing a big-ticket movie, director Prasanth Varma became an object of hate for many online. Since then, he has been targeted by trolls, who always accuse him of "using" gods to maximize box-office revenues.

A charge is that Varma announces projects without intending to take them to the floors. To an extent, this perception is justified. Jai Hanuman hasn't gone on the floors, but that's mainly because Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 got delayed. In an interview recently, Shetty described the script of Jai Hanuman as "fabulous".

When the first look of Mahakali (a movie Varma is creating but is directed by someone else) was released yesterday, netizens ridiculed him, writing that he unveiled the poster without following up on production. A netizen joked that PVCU means "Posters Vadiley Cinematic Universe", not Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe. The fact, however, is that Mahakali is 50% complete. It went on the floors in May and has been shot since then.
