Of late, short films have become a short-cut to enter Tollywood. Mukesh Kumar is a young director who has wielded the megaphone for a feature film titled 'Samantha' on the back of doing a short film in the past. Hailing from Anantapur's Kadiri, Mukesh is passionate about cinema. Thanks to short films, he learned the craft of filmmaking on his own. 'Samantha', an indie film, was made by him recently and it started streaming on Urvasi OTT from March 6.

The female-centric thriller, with hypnotism as the backdrop, has Siri Kanakan as the female lead. Lirin, Ramesh Neel, Charan, Srikanth and Prudhvi are part of the cast.

Mukesh Kumar is happy with the response for 'Samantha'. "I was working in Dubai when 'Baahubali' came out. When I saw everyone talking about that film, I felt that I should debut in movies. I attended the classes by Paruchuri Gopalakrishna garu at Film Chamber. I was witness to how much Vijayendra Prasad garu is respected. When a writer becomes super-successful, he gets a lot of respect," Mukesh said.

He added that RGV and Mysskin are his favourite directors. He wants to become a specialist in thrillers.
