'Beast': 'Pokiri' reference shows creative bankruptcy

'Beast' is out in theatres. Starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, the film is directed by Nelson.

Despite being a big-ticket entertainer starring a superstar like Vijay, it commits a folly. The film shamelessly borrows the famous 'Pokiri' punchline: 'Okka saari commit aithe naa maata nene vinanu'. Actually, the line is from 'Pokkiri', the Tamil remake of 'Pokiri'. "Oru Vaati Mudivu Panta, Yen Pecha Naane Kekka Maaten" is the Tamil translation of the line.

It is true that the Tamil remake starred Vijay himself. So, it is not like he is mouthing Mahesh Babu's punchline. He is repeating his own punchline. But if you look at it differently, it shows that the writers of 'Beast' suffer from creative bankruptcy and therefore, they couldn't pull off an original punchline. That's why they had to borrow a 16-year-old punchline.
