Vijay Deverakonda has stunned everyone by going semi-nude for 'Liger'. On Saturday, a poster of his unlikely (not to be confused with unlikeable) pose was released unannounced.
Social media is getting entertained thoroughly. Usually, when a star actor does something bold, it has to make the audience say 'Wow!'. Instead, a lot of Netizens are mocking the poster.
Granted that Vijay is looking chiselled and fit in the poster. But it is also true that the poster was released without an accompanying context.
When Aamir Khan went semi-nude for 'PK', director Rajkumar Hirani could convince the audience that it was for the role. An alien appears on Earth and he had to be nude. When Kamal Haasan posed nude for 'Abhay', there was a feeling that he had done for an atypical role.
'Liger' is a commercial action entertainer. What made Vijay do something bold? Boldness has to have a context. It is not enough if you splash the words 'Saala Crossbeed' across a semi-nude poster.
Director Puri Jagannadh should have prepared the ground before releasing the poster. Let's just hope that craziness doesn't get out of hand. After all, a pan-India flick can invite pan-India ridicule. So!
