If the visuals of Baa Baaa Black Sheep look distinct, that's because this new-age crime comedy was shot entirely in Meghalaya, a hill state that has rarely been explored by Telugu cinema. Director Guni Manchikanti didn't go for the low-hanging fruit just because the backdrop is exciting. He has infused the narrative, filled with a flamboyant gangster and young buddies who come with their share of idiosyncrasies, with chases and twists!
The casting is an interesting blend. You have Tinnu Anand (the Salaar oldie) and Upendra Limaye (the Animal hypebro) cast alongside a set of young actors, particularly MAD fame Vishnu Oi. The film also features George Marian, Akshay Lagusani, Karthikeya, and Vismaya Sri.
A missing watch is at the centre of the story. And this is not just another artefact - it was once used by Mahatma Gandhi himself. The dynamics between the various characters seem to be the propelling force behind the script.
Produced by Venu Donepudi, the quality of production looks top-class. Ajay Abraham George's cinematography is efficient. Electronic Kill, Anand (Arcado) are the music directors. Vijay Muthavarapu has edited the buddy gangster-based crime comedy. Sahi Suresh is the production designer. Wing Chun Anji is the action director. JD Master is the dance choreographer.
Set to be released in theatres in April or May, the film has received a thumbs-up from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, who has highlighted Baa Baaa Black Sheep as a landmark in bolstering the state's creative economy and tourism sector.
