Two South Indian films win 9 National Awards

'Soorarai Pottru' (dubbed and released as 'Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa' in Telugu), harvested multiple National Awards today. It won five national awards, setting a huge benchmark for our movies.

The Tamil film won awards in the Best Feature Film, Best Actor (Suriya, shared with Ajay Devgn for 'Tanhaji'), Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali), Best Original Screenplay (Sudha Kongara and Shalini Usha Nair), and Best Music Director - Background Score (GV Prakash Kumar) categories. (It must be noted that director Kongara did NOT win the Best Director Award)

The other South Indian movie that won multiple National Awards is 'Ayyappanum Koshiyum' (Malayalam). It won four awards in the following categories:

Best Director: Sachy, who passed away just months after the film's release. He died due to cardiac arrest.

Best Supporting Actor: Biju Menon. This role was reprised by Pawan Kalyan in the Telugu remake 'Bheemla Nayak'.

Best Playback Singer: Nanjamma for the song 'Kalakkatha'.

Best Stunt Choreography: Mafia Sasi. The stunts in the film were considered realistic and non-cinematic.
