Actor Suriya booked for 'controversial scenes' in his movie

Ever since 'Jai Bhim' was released on Amazon Prime Video last year, there has been a hue and cry over the alleged misportrayal of the Vanniyar community by the movie. Vanniyar Sangam’s president T Arulmozhi raised an objection last November, calling for cases to be lodged against Suriya, director TJ Gnanavel and others.

Now, the Rudra Vanniyar Sena has swung into action after others failed to put the actor and the director in perpetual trouble. K Santosh of the Sena has reportedly moved a district court in Tamil Nadu, seeking that Suriya and the director should be booked under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. As a consequence, Suriya has been booked under the law.

Section 295A, which is a widely misused provision, books people who deliberately offend the religious sentiments of any community.
