'Ghantasala The Great', directed by Ch Rama Rao, stars Krishna Chaitanya in the role of the legendary Ghantasala. Mrudula is playing Ghantasala’s wife Savithri. Produced by Phani and GV Bhaskar of Anyukth Ram Productions, the biopic will head to the theatres in December this year.

Speaking at an event related to the film on Saturday, producer C Kalyan said that the very name Ghantasala fills the Telugu people with a sense of pride. "I urge, on behalf of the Telugu film industry, to make this biopic a box-office success. I appreciate Krishna Chaitanya for reprising the legend on the big screen," he added.

KL Damodar Prasad said that a Ghantasala biopic was long overdue. Prasanna Kumar said that Ghantasala's songs are immortal. "Even though he is not present amidst us physically, his songs will always remain with us," he added. Producer GV Bhaskar wanted to make the film at least five years ago. However, due to some legal issues with Ghantasala's family members, the production plans were temporarily called off. After resolving all outstanding issues, the film has been made.

Also featuring Suman, Subbaraya Sarma, JK Bharavi and Ashok Kumar, the biopic has cinematography by Venu Muralidhar. Saluri Vasurao is composing the music.
