Much-trolled Netflix series 'Heeramandi' to have a second season

'Heeramandi', directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has been streaming on Netflix for the past four weeks. The overlong series, starring well-known Hindi film actresses, may have been trolled heavily but it has been a hit in terms of viewership on the streaming giant. Netflix has therefore decided to launch its sequel.

The first installment was set in Lahore in undivided Pakistan. In the second, they leave the place after the Partition of India in 1947 and settle down in Bombay. There, some of them enter the Hindi film industry. Others move to Calcutta and enter the Bengali film industry.

"They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that’s the second season we are planning, let’s see where it goes,” the director has been quoted as saying.

It is instructive that even mediocre content, if matched with grandeur and star attraction, works on OTT.
