RGV realizes brazen propaganda can't get votes

Ram Gopal Varma has stated that his political movies like 'Vyooham' and 'Sapatham' failed to influence even a single voter during elections. The acclaimed filmmaker today made the remark while saying that the Kootami stormed to power in Andhra Pradesh with 164 seats despite his movies against Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan and Nara Lokesh.

The limits of propaganda cinema are obvious to neutral observers. Filmmakers and politicians who are favoured by them know this to an extent but they make their doomed attempts nevertheless. After all, there is nothing much to lose, except money, which anyways is spent like water during elections.

Ram Gopal Varma frittered away his goodwill by brazening it out; his films didn't feature known artists in lead roles either. Having political beliefs and taking sides is not wrong, but RGV suspended all nuance and believed that a propaganda film has to be as blatant as possible to make the maximum impact on voters. The opposite is true. Propaganda films have to be subtle, not explicit.

What is shocking is that even Mahi V Raghav's 'Yatra 2' understood this theory and was quite mature. The movie also had craft. On the other hand, the two RGV films were exceptionally boring and shamelessly frustrating.
