Telugu cinema specializes in the sodhi mass genre. Key traits of the genre are that the male leads of sodhi mass movies invariably have a thick beard, unkempt hair, messy dressing style, and a drinking problem. They also confuse characterization for plot. The sodhi mass genre took shape with the success of a certain brand of Tamil cinema in the 2000s. Telugu cinema filmmakers copied those characterizations without possessing the intelligence of building a strong story.
'Bachhala Malli' seems to fall into the category. Its director, Subbu, has previously made 'Solo Brathuke So Better', a semi joke of a film wherein Sai Dharam Tej's character came with loads of verbal diarrhea and immaturity. Allari Naresh's Malli in 'Bachhala Malli' might be a well-written character but the Teaser doesn't inspire confidence. Telugu films with problematic male leads usually indulge in the lead man for 120 minutes and show his reformed side only in the last 20 minutes.
'Bachhhala Malli', produced by Hasya Movies, will hit the cinemas on December 20.
