Deep Divisions Surface in Tollywood After National Awards

Speaking at an event on Thursday, senior producer Allu Aravind lamented that none of the National Award winners this year were felicitated by the Telugu film industry. In July, seven Telugu movies won National Awards in different categories. Among them are writers, a singer, and producers. Films like Baby and Balagam were among the winners.

Allu Aravind's remark suggests that all is not well in the industry. Those who follow Tollywood-related developments would know that cold wars exist between various industry bodies all the time. One set of producers dislikes another set. One set of distributors has a rivalry with another set. Groupism is par for the course. The less said about heroes, the better. Even on issues where there should be consensus, there is none to be had.

More than ever, the Telugu film industry remains divided today. Which is why you have producers talking against other producers/films in interviews. Unity in Telugu cinema is a facade.
