Mouli Tanuj Prasanth of 90's: A Middle Class Biopic fame awaits the release of Little Hearts on September 5. Having found his footing through reels and comical videos, what does this outsider think of the standards of the Telugu film industry?
Speaking in an interview recently, Mouli remarked that he used to think that excellent talents alone produce movies. "After I moved to Hyderabad and started auditioning for roles, I realized that those who make reels in small towns are far better in comparison. People here waste their time with trashy scripts. They think their scripts have value, but they are junk," Mouli said.
Mouli's view might feel like a provocative hot take, but he is most certainly right in his assessment. If the Hyderabad-based industry had talented writers, directors, and producers, the success rate wouldn't be as low as 10%, with a majority of even this meagre fraction just breaking even. Stock characters, cliches, and over-the-top comedy are what most Telugu films give the audience.
