Kannappa was birthed in the form of an idea way back in 2014. It was solidified in the late 2010s. As the film's release is almost here, actor and screenwriter Manchu Vishnu today stated that the devotional story will impress children and a whole new generation of audiences across languages. The last Kannappa film was made decades ago. So, the freshness of the latest retelling is obvious.
The ignorance surrounding Bhakta Kannappa's life is so profound that the CBFC guys who certified the film's Hindi version were appalled by some scenes. They thought that Kannappa's actions owing to his intense devotion were blasphemous. "I convinced them about the need for such scenes saying they mirror the tales associated with the great Shiva devotee," Vishnu said today.
Vishnu was asked about his stamp on the movie in the presence of icons like Prabhas and Mohanlal (so also his father, Mohan Babu). "I would like to announce that this Friday will be mine," the actor said. He is happy that his dream project features all his four kids in bit roles. "This film is history. It's not mythology," he added.
What about the OTT window? "Don't expect my movie on any platform until ten weeks," Vishnu added.
Prabhas' extended cameo is a matter of prestige for the movie. "Episodes related to him are forty minutes long (in the second half). But he will be seen for about 30-35 minutes on screen. Prabhas is not comfortable with attending promotional events. Therefore, I too didn't request his presence," Vishnu said.
Mohanlal's presence in the film will be accompanied by surprises.
Director Mukesh Kumar Singh thanked all artists for "pouring their soul and heart" into their roles. "This is a pure-hearted movie," he iterated. Sheldon Chau, the Director of Photography, said that the climax will move the audience.
The film's songs have been composed by Stephen Devassy. At least two songs have the potential to be matched with goosebumps-inducing visuals. Kannappa's Karnataka and Kerala release is very prominent. Hundreds of screens are primed to screen Kannappa in those States. Kannappa's release is huge in the Telugu States.
