If you liked Mangapathi in Court, why not love the Uppena dad?

Mangapathi, played by Sivaji in the film Court, has sparked an online debate. Many social media users have come out in his support, saying that his way of aggressively disciplining girls is the ideal style. "Every household needs a Mangapathi," an X user wrote.

For the benefit of those of you who haven't watched Court yet, Mangapathi is abusive to the core. He literally belts the minor daughter of his relative. He then does everything in his capacity to ruin the life of the son of a watchman. In no textbook are these called disciplinary actions. Discipline has to be assertive, not cruel.

"The most toxic character ever and yet people are praising this portrayal. They are just enjoying their feudal mindset being pampered," wrote Manoj Kumar S, commenting on the pro-Managapathi narrative online. "If you think Mangapathi is a good father and wish a father like him to others, then why don't you support Vijay Setupathi's character from Uppena? Oh that's right, he didn't hit his daughter. Instead, he chopped the thing that he saw as the main problem. That thing is important to you too," a Netizen wrote, referring to the Uppena plot point wherein Krithi Shetty's character castrates the male lead's genitals.

Court, produced by Natural Star Nani, stars Priyadarshi, Harshavardhan and others.
