Fan theory links Varanasi's plot to Indiana Jones, time travel, and more

"A passage opens up in Manikarnika ghat of Vaaranasi through which Rudhra (Mahesh Babu) and Kumbha (Prithviraj Sukumaran) travel from Kaliyuga to Thretha Yuga, landing directly on to the battlefield, mostly to collect Sanjeevani," wrote Capsicum Fry, offering a fan theory on what the premise of Varanasi is going to be. This apparently has parallels to the Indiana Jones franchise. In the past, writer Vijayendra Prasad has talked about the Indiana Jones franchise serving as an inspiration to the movie.

Each Indiana Jones film is centered on a globe-trotting quest for a powerful, often religious or mystical artifact. The adventures are all about finding items tied to ancient myths, legends, and history, such as the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail. The plots frequently involve the supernatural/mystical consequences of the artifacts—the power of the Ark, the life-giving properties of the Grail, or the time-manipulating nature of the Dial of Destiny.

Varanasi is scheduled to be released in theatres in Summer 2027.
