Deepika Padukone, who has been in the news for controversial reasons after she was sacked from Prabhas' Spirit and Kalki 2 recently, has been appointed as the first-ever Mental Health Ambassador of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare by the Modi government. This hasn't gone down well with BJP's core support-base.
Primarily, this opposition has got to do with the perception that Deepika is an anti-BJP celeb with pro-Congress and even Leftist sympathies. In 2020, during the anti-CAA agitation, Deepika supported a student protest held at the JNU in New Delhi. At that time, she was lauded by BJP's opponents for boldly standing up against the Modi government. In contrast, BJP supporters called her anti-Hindu.
In an old interview from the late 2000s, Deepika praised Rahul Gandhi and said that she wants to see him become the PM.
Then there is the perception that Deepika Padukone was never in a state of depression and that she talks about mental health only for PR.
