Leftist media slams The Bengal Files, but RSS, BJP back it

The Bengal Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, has been accused by the Leftist media as a propaganda movie. This section of the media was always expected to paint it as a communal movie. "Marked by compelling performances and inflammatory storytelling, the unbridled propaganda of The Bengal Files is designed to incite majoritarian anger," The Hindu wrote. As per Scroll, The Bengal Files shows communal violence in all its "mindless brutality, with mostly Muslim perpetrators and Hindu victims who endure horrific violence".

The film is based on the riots that took place in Calcutta and other parts of Bengal in the run up to India's Partition. The vivisection of India was being demanded by the Muslim League, while Hindu organizations tried to either prevent it from happening or get a decent deal for the Hindu population.

While the Leftist and anti-BJP media is angry at The Bengal Files, the right-wing is using its social media reach to support the movie. "The movie has uncovered the tragic story of Partition, the then socio-political scenario and the present sad state of affairs in the land of Durga (Bengal). The movie uncovers the truth of Bengal during 1946-1947 and recent years," wrote Rajesh Padmar, an RSS pracharak.
