Releasing the movie's teaser recently, he explained that he wrote Chai Wala to be a story people could relate to, as it was inspired by everyday life. He chose Shiva for the lead role because he believed he had the right mix of sensitivity and charm. Rajeev Kanakala plays the hero's father in Chai Wala.
