After 'Stand Up Rahul' earlier this year, Varsha Bollamma of 'Middle Class Melodies' fame is going to be seen opposite debutant Ganesh Bellamkonda in 'Swathi Muthyam', which heads to theatres on October 5.
In this interview, the actress talks about her role in the movie, working with Sithara Entertainments and Ganesh, her upcoming movies, and more.
Compared to Ganesh's character Bala Murali, I am a bit dominating. Bhagya Lakshmi is my name in the film. She is a bit strict in her equations with Bala Murali. Ganesh is a newcomer but he is informed about the craft.
When the offer came my way, I was told that it was coming from Sithara Entertainments, which is a big banner and is known to pick sensible scripts. The story narration was lovable; I realized that I have enough scope for performance. Sithara is thoroughly professional and their payments are on time. My team (hair stylist, make-up artist) was excited to work for the banner.
I like slice-of-life stories. 'Swathi Muthyam' has got deep characters and freshness throughout. The treatment is different. The story is set in a small town. I come from Coorg, where even a small issue gets to be seen through magnifying glasses. People gossip and talk about the issue with family members and friends.
It's known that there is an element of sperm donation in the film but it has no similarities with 'Vicky Donor'. The treatment is completely different. The presence of the likes of Goparaju Ramana garu, Naresh garu and others makes it a different film in many ways. They make the film an entertainer.
In my first Telugu film 'Chusi Choodangane', I played a drummer. It's not like I have been doing only traditional roles. Maybe, people notice me more for the girl-next-door roles. I want to be versatile and essay challenging roles. Maybe, I will be good at playing a psychotic role, a lady villain!
Commercial success is very important for any actor. Everyone in the industry should talk about the actor's performance. That will be a big plus for an actor. I am not an over-ambitious actor. I want to be known as a performer. 'Middle Class Melodies' changed things for me. Even two years after its release, I am receiving most of the offers in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam because of that movie. I am doing a film in Tamil, but my focus has been more on Telugu.
I am doing Sundeep Kishan's movie directed by Vi Anand. There are a couple of other projects in the pipeline.
