Nenekkadunna is the title of an upcoming thriller film directed by Madhav Kodad. Produced by Maruthi Shyam Prasad Reddy under the Ajagava Arts banner, this one features Mimoh Chakraborty, son of veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, in the lead. Mimoh is making his Telugu-language debut. Sasha Chettri, who shot to fame with the Airtel 4G ad years ago, is playing a journalist.
Ahead of the film's theatrical release on February 28, Mimoh talks about what to expect from the movie.
Growing up, my childhood was deeply immersed in the world of South Indian cinema. My father, Mithun Chakraborty, owned a hotel in Ooty, where I spent much of my time. Living there, I was constantly surrounded by the vibrant culture of Telugu and Tamil films, which became a significant part of my early years.
Sasha Chettri had come on board before I did. I landed the role because of a friend who knew this project was being commissioned. Director Madhav Kodada came all the way to Mumbai to give a narration. Since the story is meaningful, I accepted the offer.
My father encouraged me to give my 100% as an actor. I may have done a Telugu movie today, but language is not an issue for me. I want to do Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri films as well. The view about an actor needing to transcend linguistic boundaries is shared by my father as well. I have been taught by my father to be honest and sincere in whatever I do. I go by my conscience. If something is not to be done, I don't do it. Not just language, I am all for playing even negative roles provided they are well-written. I can also play comic roles as well as supporting characters.
Coming to Nenekkadunna, it is a female-oriented film on the face of it. That said, it is not just about a message on woman empowerment or the need for women in fields like journalism. As far as I see it, this film is a full-on popcorn entertainer. That said, this is also a thriller with a totally shocking twist. Nobody would be able to predict it.
I call Nenekkadunna a thorough entertainer because it has all the ingredients you would expect from a commercial film. It has a song, it features proper action sequences, and more. The director has hands-on experience, thanks to his short-film stint. Although he is a debutant feature filmmaker, he has dedicated four years of his life for Nenekkadunna. The producer and the entire cast and crew supported him throughout.
My father is a superstar for others but is a dear member to me. His association with the Telugu film industry is well-known to the audience. He has acted alongside Pawan Kalyan garu in Gopala Gopala. He is currently acting in Prabhas’ Fauji.
I personally admire Pawan Kalyan, Prabhas, Thalapathy Vijay, and Rajinikanth. I want to work with all the big stars.
I am acting in a sequel to Haunted, which I did 13 years ago with Bollywood director Vikram Bhatt. I am also working on Khakee Season 2 for Netflix.
