Anaswara Rajan will be seen in a traditionally-dressed and socially assertive woman named Chandrakala in Champion. Starring Roshan Meka in the lead, the heroine is its "heartbeat". Anaswara has primarily worked in Malayalam and Tamil. Her critically acclaimed performance as a blind sculptor in Neru (2023) earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Malayalam. Anaswara has also made her debut in Tamil cinema with Raangi (2022) and in Hindi cinema with Yaariyan 2 (2023). Her recent notable films include box office successes like Abraham Ozler (2024) and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil (2024).
In this interview, the young actress talks about her role in the Christmas release, co-starring Roshan Meka as a footballer and directed by Pradeep Advaitham. Vyjayanthi Movies is backing it, while Nandamuri Kalyan Chakravarthy is making a comeback in a crucial role in this British-era narrative.
Honestly, I don’t have a deep understanding of the Telugu language. However, director Pradeep and everyone in the unit supported me immensely when it came to the language. It was because of their support that I was able to deliver the Telugu dialogues so well. I hope my pronunciation will be liked by one and all.
I have always received encouragement from the Telugu audience who got to watch me in my non-Telugu movies. They are large-hearted people. Everything in Telugu cinema is very grand. The filmmakers and producers here are extremely supportive. Once you work here, you feel like doing Telugu films again and again. I received a lot of support from producer Swapna Dutt, who is like an elder sister. Whenever I was performing something on set, the applause she gave me filled me with even more energy.
The response to the Gira Gira song made me very happy. The Mickey J Meyer composition is my personal favourite, too. We enjoyed shooting this song very much. Roshan is an amazing dancer, and I even learned a few dance moves from him.
When I first heard this story, it deeply moved me. Stories like this linger in the audience’s hearts long after the film ends. This movie has all the elements of a truly memorable film. The character of Chandrakala, in particular, will stay with the audience. From the moment I heard the story, I connected strongly with Chandrakala, the role I played, and portraying her brought me immense joy. Even as an audience member, I genuinely love watching films like this.
Honestly, I really love doing vintage period films because they let you experience elements you can’t experience in real life. You get to wear costumes from that era. I really enjoyed getting ready for the character Chandrakala.
I am doing a movie titled Itlu Mee Arjun next in Telugu.
