Gangaputrulu in Bangalore film festival

‘Gangaputrulu’ was selected for the 4th edition of Bangalore film festival that is being organised by Karnataka State Govt and Karnataka Chalanachitra academy. About 179 films will be screened from 16th December. Films from 40 countries will be screened in this week long film festival.

There are four competitive sections in this edition and ‘Gangaputrulu’ is the only Telugu film participating and it is also in the competition section.

Previously ‘Gangaputrulu’ was selected as closing film in Riverside International film festival and participated in best of Indian film section of Mumbai International film festival.

It won three state awards including 2nd best picture and best director for the year 2010.

Digi-quest India and Sravya films jointly produced this film. K. Basi Reddy and Y.Ravindra Babu are the producers. The film is directed by P.Suneel Kumar Reddy.

This film got dubbed in Tamil as ‘Meenakaaran’ (Fisher men) and is releasing shortly across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Films like The Battle of Algiers, Z, The Whistleblower, Air India 182 and many others will be screened.

As many as nine political cinemas have been lined up for the event.

Retrospective cinema is also a new category of films being explored as a part of the film festival.

The films in this category are The Trojan Women, The Cherry Orchard, The Weeping Meadow along with 34 such films. Other activities planned for the week will include 4 masterclasses and seminars for the masses attending the film festival. The festival committee is also considering to pay a tribute to Late Dev Anand during the course of the film festival. Academy President T S Nagabharana and members of the organising committee were present.

This festival will be closing on 22 nd December.
