Government to launch inquiry into Nayanthara's 'surrogacy option'

Commercial surrogacy has been banned in India since January this year. Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan are believed to have become parents to twin boys via surrogacy. They will now face an inquiry from the Tamil Nadu government.

On Monday, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian reportedly said that the government will ask the couple to give an explanation on the matter. "The Directorate of Medical Services will be directed to conduct an inquiry and seek an explanation," the Minister has been quoted as saying by a news daily.

Altruistic surrogacy, however, is not banned in India where there is a strong reason for a couple to go for it.

It's believed that the 'GodFather' actress is informed about the legal issues involved. Fans are hoping that the couple had completed the required formalities while opting for surrogacy.
