Pooja Hegde will be seen as Suriya's romantic interest in Retro, a gangster action drama led by Suriya. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film will be released on a prominent scale in Summer 2025 in Tamil and Telugu.
Retro is Pooja Hegde's best bet down south. After a series of setbacks in the form of multiple box office flops, she faced headwinds with the rise of Rashmika Mandanna and Sreeleela.
In 2022, Pooja's career was in a constant downturn. Cirkus (Hindi), Prabhas' Radhe Shyam, Chiranjeevi's Acharya, and Thalapathy Vijay's Beast flunked. She also missed out on Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram and Pawan Kalyan's Ustaad Bhagat Singh that year. Eventually Guntur Kaaram went to Sreeleela and so also UBS.
Retro could have Pooja Hegde in a performance-oriented role. If the film clicks, she will see a turnaround. Otherwise, it will end her career in Tamil and Telugu.
