Producers of big-ticket movies usually enter the safe zone thanks to high-value theatrical and non-theatrical rights. Dil Raju, who was supposed to produce 'Indian 2' before he walked out of the project in 2017, wouldn't have lost much even if he had produced the mega disaster.
However, he got saved by not opting to buy its Telugu release rights in Nizam. Had he bought the release rights, he would have incurred heavy losses.
Dil Raju, as a distributor, lost heavily on Gunasekhar's 'Shaakuntalam' last year. 'Indian 2' would have further affected him as much. It might have also impacted his 'Game Changer' deals, as he would have negotiated on a weaker footing.
Just a few months ago, baseless news reports claimed that Lyca Productions was planning to sell the Telugu theatrical rights to 'Indian 2' for Rs 75 Cr. After a loss of buzz due to terrible promotional material, the value of the rights was slashed. Had Dil Raju been a distributor, the value of the rights might have been higher.
