The Andhra Pradesh government is intent on getting Ram Gopal Varma interrogated for posting morphed images of CBN, Pawan Kalyan and Nara Lokesh in the past. On Monday, the Ongole police knocked on the doors of his office in Hyderabad. Reportedly, they even mooted an arrest since he was "not cooperating" with them.
If RGV is arrested and eventually produced before the court, it will be interesting to see what he will utter in his interviews after he gets out on bail. RGV has carefully choreographed his own public image over many years. He has projected himself as a maverick who speaks about everything from s*x to celeb private lives without filters.
After RGV became politically partisan and launched tirades against certain political leaders, he lost a lot of sheen among many of his former admirers. His propaganda films, two of which were released this year before the Assembly elections in AP, didn't find any takers. It's doubtful even YSRCP supporters watched it. RGV, after the YSRCP's ouster from power, decided not to make political films in the future.
The next few years will determine how long Ram Gopal Varma will stay the course in the public mindspace. He has to refashion himself as a maverick who has got back his mojo. Directing a crazy film that becomes a commercial hit will help him redeem his image.
