'Good Bad Ugly', the recent Ajith-starring gangster action comedy, makes use of classics composed by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja thrice in the movie. The news is that Raja, as the legend is fondly known as, has slapped Mythri Movie Makers with a legal notice.

"He has issued a legal notice demanding Rs 5 crore in compensation and the immediate removal of altered versions of three of his iconic songs, which he claims were used without his permission in director Adhik Ravichandran's movie," a report says.

As per Copyright laws, the creative output of others can't be used in a movie or for any other commercial purpose without their prior consent. When Ranbir Kapoor's Animal was being made, T-Series made sure to secure AR Rahman's consent for using his old tunes from Roja.

It is likely that similar permissions were sought from concerned parties during the making of Good Bad Ugly. These days, producers are circumspect when it comes to using Ilaiyaraaja's works, for he has issued similar notices before. On his part, the composer has demanded an apology and the removal of the songs from Good Bad Ugly.
