With Ajith's Good Bad Ugly becoming a blockbuster, a concerted online campaign has sprung up. For the past three days, he has been accused of ditching an actress (whom he allegedly fell in love with in the 1990s) in the past by random social media users. Fan wars have taken an ugly turn in this case.
After being conferred with Padma Bhushan in New Delhi two days ago, the Viswasam and Vivegam actor gave an interview to a national media house. This is a rare interview. Ajith doesn't give interviews to promote his own movies."Ajith Kumar ditched film promotions for decades, letting producers suffer in silence. Now suddenly all in for racing interviews to feed his personal ego. His fans? Brainwashed. Producers? Gutless. All dancing to his tune like puppets. Embarrassing cult behavior," a widely-shared social media post laments.
Ajith regards promotions as a silly and pointless indulgence. He feels that a film has to do the talking, not the actors associated with it. "I am not an Ajith fan, but promotions are a relatively new concept, especially for Southern movies. Before 2010, there used to be hardly any promotional events for 90% of the films. Only Magazine interviews and write-ups used to be practice," an X user, defending Ajith, argues.
