On Sunday, at a Laila event, comedian Prudhvi made anti-YCP remarks. As a Jana Sena loyalist, Prudhvi used the occasion to parade his political views by mocking Jagan's party. His remarks have snowballed into a huge online controversy.

At the time of writing, as many as 60,000 tweets calling for the boycott of Laila were seen on X. As per actor Vishwak Sen, they have received threats that their movie will be pirated on the very day of its release. "They are threatening us that a HD version of Laila will be put out online on February 14," Vishwak Sen said.

The actor said that he is anguished by the whole controversy, especially because the stakes are too high. About Rs 30-40 Cr is riding on Laila, he claimed.

Producer Sahu Garapati of Shine Screens has bankrolled the movie. He and Vishwak said that they would have prevented Prudhvi from completing his remarks had they been on stage at that time. "It's not until we went back to our homes that we learned about Prudhvi's remarks. When he was speaking, we were not in the hall because we had gone out to personally welcome Chiranjeevi garu," the actor-producer duo said.
