For all we know, Bhairavam was severely dented by Khaleja, which was re-released on May 30. Bhairavam, a straight release, was nearly pummeled on its opening day at the box office by the Mahesh Babu-starrer. In this regard, actor Manchu Manoj hoped re-releases would be planned in such a way that they didn't clash with new releases over the weekends. "Re-releases, by virtue of their pull, will do business no matter when they are released in theatres," he opined, hoping that a collective decision is taken to ensure that re-releases are prohibited from being released on Fridays.
But will Manoj's wish be granted? Knowing how things play out in Telugu cinema, the self-interests of big producers, major stars, and all-important exhibitors will not allow a consensus to be reached in the near future. A drama will ensue once all major movies have been re-released and there is little hope that other old movies will draw audiences in large numbers in the present. They will claim that interests of new releases is paramount and that re-releases can wait. But that will make no difference.
