Keerthy Suresh throws light on Deepika Padukone debate

The Deepika Padukone debate is now months old. After she was fired by the makers of Kalki 2898 AD and Spirit for allegedly disagreeing with their alleged long work hour demands, a few actors have tried to shed light on the issue of work-life balance.

On Wednesday, it was the turn of actress Keerthy Suresh, who gave an elaborate answer. "While doing Mahanati, I was acting in five other movies. I have worked 8-hour shifts, 12-hour shifts and even longer hours. An 8-hour shift is never really that. If I have to be ready for my shot at 9 am, I need to reach the sets by 7:30 am for make-up. Which means, I need to wake up at 5:30 am. The shift ends at 6 pm, but by the time I reach my house or hotel, it's almost 8:30 pm. By the time I get to sleep, it is 10 pm. So even a regular shift means I get to sleep not more than six hours," she said.

Keerthy Suresh further added that light boys and others have to work even longer. "Like food, sleep is also essential. Across industries, light boys get to sleep not more than 2-4 hours. From a health perspective, this is an issue. In Malayalam and Hindi, work shifts are typically 12-hour ones. In Telugu and Tamil, they are 8-hour ones," she said.
