'Kanabadutaledu', starring Sunil as the lead actor, will head to the theatres on August 19. In this interview, debutante Vaishali Raj talks about her background, the film and more.

Kavitha Kona is my original name and I have adopted Vaishali Raj as my screen name. I hail from Vizag and am a Telugu-speaking girl. Two years ago, someone saw a short film in which I acted and roped me in for this movie. Director Bala Raju is the one who taught me acting. I have done five short films and acted in a TV serial titled 'Mouna Ragam'.

'Kanabadutaledu' is a suspenseful crime-filled love story. I am very happy to have got to work with Sunil garu, who has played a detective in the movie. There are two other male actors who have played main roles.

The entire story revolves around my character. Spark has taken over our movie and is releasing in a big way worldwide.

I have played a girl-next-door and a middle-class girl in 'Kanabadutaledu'. After doing short films, I have realized that I love playing emotional scenes. I never went to an acting school. I used to be scared of the camera initially.

Short films don't take more than a couple of days to be shot. Doing them and a TV serial helped me learn about how to behave in front of the camera, what to expect from the positioning of lighting, etc. on set, etc. I used to give instructions to others on set, thanks to my prior experience.

Madhu Ponnas, the music director of this movie, has taught music to the daughter of SS Rajamouli and the daughter of Sukumar. He is experienced and has done a neat job.

Even as a child, I used to dream about becoming an actor. I don't want to limit myself to any genre. But I want my character to be very important. I am listening to stories and will take a call after the release of 'Kanabadutaledu'. I am a Telugu girl and I hope I will find encouragement from everyone.

I recently got an offer from Sithara Entertainments. It's not a lead role, though. I am still in talks with the banner.I admire Deepika Padukone a lot. Samantha and Nayanthara are also among my favourite actors.
