Aakanksha Singh of Malli Raava and Devadas fame is playing the female lead in Shashtipoorthi. Paired opposite Rupeysh, she has a meaty part in this family drama co-starring Rajendra Prasad and Ladies Tailor fame Archana. In this interview, Aakanksha talks about what drew her to the project, its highlights, and more. Saying that working in Shashtipoorthi was nothing less than participating in an acting school, she savours the memories she made shooting for the family drama.
Shashtipoorthi heads to theatres on May 30.
After the pandemic struck, my Tollywood journey was halted temporarily. Meet Cute was to be released in theatres. Due to the pandemic, it was released directly on OTT. I am happy that, finally, here is a film (Shashtipoorthi) releasing in theatres. On the technical front, the film is brilliant.
Janaki is my name in the film. She comes from a rural background and plays the role of a Temple treasurer. The story of this film is relevant. This is the first time that I am playing a traditional Telugu woman. This is also my first Langa Voni look in the cinema.
Shooting for this movie was a memorable experience. I got to revel in the atmosphere of the Godavari region. Even the scorching summer heat didn't deter our spirit. We traveled on boats. Shooting for this film is nothing less than a memory.
Shashtipoorthi's music, featuring timeless songs by Ilaiyaraaja sir, is truly moving. Each song evokes deep emotion. This is a must-watch film for families, delivering a powerful message about parents. While filming, I deeply missed my own father, which reinforced the film's core message: cherish and spend more time with your parents.
After Bench Life (an OTT original), this is my second outing starring Rajendra Prasad garu. We synced so well. For emotional scenes, we didn't have to use glycerin. Although the film is about a custom, the story touches upon a number of themes. These themes allowed my character to be atypical. It's a layered character about which I can't talk much now.
Rupesh is also the film's producer. He is so passionate. He rendered total justice to his roles as a male lead and a producer. As for director Pavan Prabha, he is a man of immense clarity.
Always aspiring to be recognized as a good actress, I have selectively pursued strong roles and compelling stories, believing Shashtipoorthi will further enhance my appreciation. I am open to working in OTT or web series if the story and character appeal to me, as I believe sincere work naturally attracts opportunities. I am eager to explore all genres and roles, particularly enjoying action films. I am currently working on one that's progressing well and also considering a Tamil project, as I am a big fan of Nani's movies.
